Let’s face it, our parents aren’t exactly tech wizards. They’re still trying to figure out how to send a text message without accidentally calling their grandkids. And now, they’re expected to navigate the treacherous waters of the internet? It’s like throwing a lamb to the wolves.
These cybercriminals are lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on any unsuspecting victim. They’re using every trick in the book, from phishing emails to social engineering scams. And our parents are prime targets.
So, as a good son or daughter, it’s up to us to protect our parents from these digital dangers. Here are a few tips to keep them safe:
Ok so most of us are tech savvy and understand that the world wide web is fraught with danger, our parents not so much. My parents have been reading my posts and started asking me what all this means and how can they be more secure online…. Then they told me to write this, Thanks Mom & Dad!! 😊 |
- Criminals pray on the elderly!
- If it sounds to good to be true, it IS A SCAM!
- Never ever give out your banking PIN number to anyone EVER.
- If someone calls you claiming to be from you Bank, Government department etc asking for personal information DON’T GIVE IT. They should have this already.
- If they threaten you, end the call.
- Report it to the police
- Don’t trust Emails even if you are expecting something.
- Do not post your personal movements on Social Media…. Do it after the fact. The more you tell people the easier it is to get in harms way!
- Make sure that you have anti malware on your devices.
- Make sure your devices are updated.
Rules you should follow!!! |
- Go visit your folks often and make sure you take care of them and their online security needs.
- Make sure their devices are updated.
- Check for rogue applications and the usual strange stuff
- Make their lives easier by lending a hand, even when you don’t “have time”.
